Trips
Our June travel program to Chiapas, Mexico is on it's way!

Cloudforest Initiatives is developing an educational travel program for United Theological Seminary of New Brighton, Minnesota, Master of Divinity students who will come to Chiapas, Mexico, for 10 days in June, 2010.  Up to 25 students, including professor Cris Smith and Cloudforest board member, writer and educator, Teresa Ortiz, will participate in a variety of formal presentations, indigenous community visits, and nonprofit briefings to see and hear directly about conditions and conflicts in the area.

Our next trip is planned for February 2011. You may participate as part of our delegation or plan an individual trip with our help. We are flexicble. More details available soon.

Autonomous Communities
Here we will try to keep you updated as to how the communities are doing, needs, challenges and progress.

Stove Project

At the 2002 Earth Summit in Johannesburg it was noted that air pollution from indoor cooking fires kills more people than any other form of air pollution. Other health problems directly related to indoor cooking fires are: blindness, eye infections, burn and respiratory illness.

The Guatemala stove project is a Canadian effort to provide well ventilated stoves to rural communities in Guatemala. CLOUDFOREST INITIATIVES is joining forces with a group of conscientious Canadians and wants to modify and expand this effort to include the autonomous communities of Chiapas, Mexico, taking into account their needs and available resources.

Fundraiser

We are honored to have John Ross - Legendary radical author, poet and storyteller, visiting the Twin Cities en tour with his latest book El Monstruo - Dread & Redemption in Mexico City". It also happens to be his birthday and we plan to celebrate with him!

For sure we'll have good food and we might also have poetry, readings and more...

We ask for a donation of $15.00 (more if you can, we'd love it!).

Our delicious fair trade coffee, note-cards, posters and forged iron items will be available for sale. All funds are used to promote projects such as vented stoves and eco-agriculture in Maya communities of Chiapas, Mexico. Check our website for more information. www.cloudforestmexico.org
